The Sustainable Products pillar of our Global Sustainability Framework includes our commitment to sourcing 100% more sustainable cotton by the end of 2020 to make our products. We currently reached 80% of this target.
This is because about 60% of the clothes we offer to our customers are made of cotton and also because growing and production of conventional cotton have potential impacts on the environment, such as intensive water consumption, application of pesticides, carbon emissions and risks of forced labor. Due to these reasons, we carefully choose this raw material.
But what is more sustainable cotton?
At C&A, we understand that sustainable cotton is the one that has less environmental impacts due to the reduction or the elimination of pesticides and efficient use of water. We consider the following as sustainable cotton: organic cotton, recycled cotton and cotton grown based on the Better Cotton (BCI) standards.
