More Sustainable Raw Materials

The Sustainable Products pillar is a fundamental topic within our Global Sustainability Framework to pursue fashion with a positive impact. On this front, we analyze our clothes components and encourage the use of better raw materials for our products, the people and the environment.

We are also committed to acquiring 67% of our raw materials from more sustainable sources. This target not only includes cotton, but also viscose and polyester.

Viscose (also known as rayon), modal and lyocell are derived from cellulose made from the dissolved wood pulp of trees. Our global commitment is to assess our sourcing of cellulose-based fibers and eliminate the purchase of fabrics made of pulp from ancient and endangered forests, and other controversial sources. We have been working with the CanopyStyle Initiative since 2015 to track the world’s ancient and endangered forests.
This includes demonstrating our preference for suppliers who work to preserve endangered forests or use methods certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), and training and engaging suppliers in the CanopyStyle Initiative, encouraging them to conduct verification audits and share their results publicly.

Polyester is a type of fiber made prom petroleum derived from crude oil, a non-renewable resource. Because it is a raw material used in our products, we seek to globally increase the use of certified recyclable resources, in order to reduce the impact of extraction and processing of non-renewable resources. Globally, we have already developed polyester-based products certified by the Global Recycled Standard (GRS), or the Recycled Content Standard (RCS).
